A bonfire blazing behind the 15th century chapel on the outskirts of Għarb, on Sunday, to mark the feast of San Dimitri. One of its legends tells of an old woman who was at home when Barbary corsairs broke into her house and made off with her son. She ran weeping to the chapel, praying fervently to San Dimitri: “Bring me back my son, and I’ll light your lamp with a measure of oil.” Legend has it that her son was returned and the grateful mother kept a lamp lit day and night.
