In the past five years three former prison inmates have found employment with the government or other public entity.

Answering a PQ by Labour MP Deo Debattista yesterday, Employment Minister Evarist Bartolo pointed out that this did not mean that they were still employed.

The minister said the Employment and Training Corporation did not hold data on people who had been in prison, but only on people who had served their sentences and then registered for employment.

There were also people who, although they approached the corporation to register for employment, did not want to tell its employment advisers about their past.
