A man who was sacked from a catering company after he was accused of stealing a carton of eggs yesterday filed a case before the Industrial Tribunal.

Jonathan Micallef, 31, from Valletta, accused his former employer, Mannarinu Limited, of firing him illegally.

In an application he filed yesterday, Mr Micallef explained that he had worked for the company for the previous 12 years.

On September 15, he received a call from a company director accusing him of stealing the eggs.

He was told his job was being terminated with immediate effect.

A week later, he received a letter stating he had an argument at work and had left the job. He called the company and asked it to retract this letter, but to no avail.

He insisted that he had never received any warning during his employment and there was no valid reason at law for his dismissal.

Lawyers Joseph Gatt and David Camilleri signed the case application.
