The women’s MBA Shield continued with two other matches, Pavi Depiro having the better of Caffe Moak Luxol and Honey Athleta chalking up their first win at the expense of DHL Phoenix.

The format adopted for this competition is the same as the Anniversary Tournament played earlier this month with the team losing two matches in succession eliminated.

That means Phoenix were the first team to fall by the wayside.

Luxol had Lakeitha Alston missing, giving Depiro the edge to open their commitments with a victory and make up for their Super Cup upset to Luxol in this pre-season.

Depiro scored 13 points without reply early on and went on to change ends 27-18 ahead.

Luxol hit back strongly after the interval to cut the leeway to 27-26 but Depiro regrouped in time to regain control and start the last quarter leading 35-28.

Luxol continued to give their all but their efforts were not enough to deny Depiro who won the match 56-42.

Meanwhile, Athleta kept their hopes alive despite losing to Hibs as they beat Phoenix 61-25 to stay in contention.

Athleta opened a reassuring 36-13 lead at half-time.

With Phoenix unable to raise their game, Athleta continued to pile up the points for a comfortable win.
