The Moto 360 is a new smartwatch from Motorola. It’s also the first device to feature a round face and is available now for purchase. If you’re in the market for a smartwatch and don’t like the chunky options currently on offer by other companies, then the Moto 360 might be the right option for you. It’s small, round and perfectly formed.

Constructed of steel with a medium-sized strap, the Moto 360 is well conceived. It has a 1.56-inch backlit LCD screen capable of 320 x 290 at 205ppi. It’s also made of Gorilla Glass 3 for survivability.

Under the glass is a Texas Instruments OMAP 3 processor with 512Mb of RAM and 4Gb of storage. It also has a heart rate monitor, induction charger and a 320mAh battery. Charge is said to last a full day, which is about average right now and not a lot less than a high spec smartphone with moderate use.

The Moto 360’s induction charger allows the watch to charge wirelessly using a magnetic Qi charger. That means no mini-USB connectors or other unsightly holes in the watch. It’s a good solution which already works well in other LG and Google products such as the Nexus 5 and 7.

Considering the close relationship between Motorola and Google, it’s not surprising that the Moto 360 will be compatible with most devices that run Android 4.3 and 4.4.

While the Moto 360 isn’t offering anything very different in terms of capability, the round design, small size and induction charging do offer ease of use. When wearing the watch, it looks just like that: a watch. It’s slimmer, smaller and lighter than other smartwatch offerings, which may appeal to those of you who value form as well as function.
