Enemalta has kicked off the process for the removal of Marsa power station by issuing a call for offers for the demolition of three chimneys and four fuel tanks.

The old power station had been partially decommissioned but will not be fully decommissioned until the interconnector comes on stream in the coming months.

Preparatory work for the dismantling of turbines and boilers has also been started by Enemalta staff.

In June 2011 the British-based engineering consultancy group RVA has been commissioned by Enemalta to plan the decommissioning and dismantling of the Marsa power station, including a waste management plan.
