• Għarb celebrates the feast of St Demetrius today. A chapel dedicated to the saint is built on the edge of a promontory that can be reached by a country road from Għarb. A traditional fair will be held near the chapel starting from 11am. Activities will include games and a bouncy castle for children, stalls selling plants and a lottery. Masses will be said at the chapel as from 3.30pm. The feast ends with the main celebrant blessing the congregation with the Holy Eucharist.

• The Gozo Photography Association is organising a studio photography workshop at Għarb local council today at 9am.

• A car boot sale in aid of the Arka Foundation is taking place this morning from 7am onwards at Marsalforn car park. Sellers pay a €10 donation per car. No booking is required.

• The Friends of the Sick and Elderly are organising a car boot sale next Sunday at Victoria football ground. Sellers pay €10 per car on the day. For enquiries call 2155 1180, 2155 3336.

• Masses at Ta’ Pinu sanctuary will be said today at 6.15, 8.30, 10 and 11.15am and 5pm, followed by the recital of the rosary and Eucharistic benediction.

• Masses at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church, Ta’ Ħamet, will be said today at 9.30am and at 7.30pm.

• X-Men: Days of Future Past will be screened at Don Bosco Oratory, Victoria, today at 5.30pm. Edge of Tomorrow will be screened on Saturday at 8.30pm.

• The Victoria Scout Group is holding a Sunday lunch at its campsite in Dwejra next Sunday at 12.30pm. Tickets at €15 per adult and €5 for children aged up to 12 may be obtained from the scouts’ headquarters(Tel. 2155 6497) or group scout leader Lorrie Saliba on 7955 5844, by Wednesday. In case of bad weather, the lunch will be held at the scouts’headquarters.

• MUSEUM superior Joe Fenech will be holding a prayer and catechesis meeting at Our Lady of Pompeii church, Victoria, on October 30 from 10 to 11am. All are invited. He also presents a programme on Radju Maria every Saturday from 1 to 3pm.

• The Catholic Action Movement will hold its opening assembly on Saturday at 5pm at Għajnsielem parish church followed by Mass by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech at 6pm.

• To mark Mental health month, the Mental Health Association Gozo will organise its annual national conference on the theme ‘L-Istress – tirbħu jew jirbħek?’ on October 31 from 8.30am to 1pm at the Grand Hotel, Għajn­sielem. Speakers will discuss psychological, emotional and social stress in children, adolescents, families and the elderly.

• The Diocesan Eucharistic Movement will hold a prayer evening on Saturday at 8pm at Qala parish church, followed by Mass at midnight.

• Oasi Foundation is organising a road run/walk on November 2 from 9am onwards. There will be a 10km road run for adults, 1.5km road run for children aged nine to 15 and a five-kilometre fun walk. • A commemorative event in honour of national poet Dun Karm Psaila will take place in the Gozo Ministry hall on October 27 at 7pm. It is organised by the National Festivities Committee in conjunction with the Gozo National and Regional Celebrations Committee and Akkademja tal-Malti.

• A new musical in Maltese entitled Imhabba ta’ Veru – Kjara u Franġisku l-musical will be performed at Don Bosco Oratory Theatre, Victoria, on November 8 at 7.30pm and November 16 at 2.30pm. The musical, originally written by Italian composer Giampaolo Belardinelli, recounts episodes from the life of saints Francis and Clare and their relevance to today’s society. The main parts will be played by Mark Laurence Zammit and Ruth Portelli, supported by a 100-strong cast of singers, actors and dancers. Booking is available from the oratory.
