Evans: Sheffield United yesterday denied reports that the club have offered a new contract to convicted rapist Ched Evans. Evans, 25, was released from prison on Friday after serving half of his five-year sentence for raping a 19-year-old woman in a hotel and is at the centre of a nationwide debate as to whether he should return to his former club to resume his career. It was reported yesterday that the Wales striker had been offered a two-year contract by United. But the club have refuted the report.

Fifa probe: Senior officials at Nepal’s football association have asked FIFA’s ethics chief Michael Garcia to launch an investigation into their own president Ganesh Thapa. The request comes after the country’s public accounts committee ordered an investigation of Thapa over what it said was alleged embezzlement of funds. Thapa has repeatedly denied all allegations.

Delph: Aston Villa and England midfielder Fabian Delph needs shoulder surgery after a training injury and could be out of action until the end of December. That would rule the player out of England’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia next month as well as a friendly against Scotland and up to 11 Premier League matches for Villa. He suffered the injury during a fall in training on Tuesday.

Cavani off: PSG striker Edinson Cavani was sent off for his trademark gun celebration and subsequent protests as the French champions beat Lens 3-1 late Friday. Cavani scored a penalty, was booked for miming firing a gun and shown a second yellow for immediately grabbing referee Nicolas Rainville’s arm. PSG chief Nasser Al Khelaifi said: “He does not deserve a red card… he always celebrates the same way.”

Glik ban: Kamil Glik, the Torino skipper, will be available for the Serie A match against Lazio later this month after having a two-match ban halved following appeal. Glik will be out of today’s match against Udinese and so will team-mate Omar El Kaddouri whose two-match ban was confirmed. The pair were penalised for showing dissent to the match officials at the end of a 2-1 upset to Napoli.
