A creative writing programme has been set up at the University’s Faculty of Arts.
It aims to build up capacity to provide services to aspiring and established writers, through individual manuscript consultations, public readings and talks, and by providing information on the publishing process and facilitating connections to local and international writing communities.
Part of the programme’s remit is to periodically host an internationally accomplished professional writer in residence for several weeks each year.
The first such writer will be Jim Crace, an acclaimed British author of books such as Being Dead and Harvest.
Crace will be in residence at the faculty from November 10 to December 20.
He will conduct seminars and workshops, give talks, share insights and generally act as mentor and be available for consultation and manuscript advice.
A programme of public activities will be announced in due course. All activities are free of charge. A limited number of places is available for those wishing to take part in workshops.
People engaged in creative writing who wish to join the workshops are to e-mail a sample of up to 1,500 words of their written published or unpublished work to Charlene Schiavone at charlene.schiavone@um.edu.mt by November 5.
