An exhibition highlighting the history of Cottonera Hospital was inaugurated at St Edward’s College by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat. He also unveiled a plaque at the college’s main entrance to commemorate the role the hospital played in World War I. The hospital, built according to plans proposed by Florence Nightingale, welcomed its first patients in 1873 and closed in 1920. In 1929, Lady Strickland, Countess della Catena, wife of then Prime Minister Lord Gerald Strickland, used the buildings and grounds to set up the college. The exhibition may be viewed by appointment.
