Qormi chalked up their second successive victory as they scored two goals in each half to see off Floriana 4-2 at the National Stadium.

Qormi were off to a flier and on 20 minutes they forged ahead when they were awarded a free-kick and Joseph Chetcuti’s cross was met by Anderson who sent a firm header past Floriana goalkeeper Valerio Senatore.

Floriana were stunned and Qormi struck again two minutes later when Duncan Pisani won possession on the edge of the area before hitting a fierce low drive that gave no chance to Senatore.

The Greens finally threatened on 40 minutes when they were awarded a central free-kick and Douglas Cobo’s curling drive came off the bar.

On the restart, Giovanni Tedesco, the Floriana coach roped in Isaac Galea for the subdued Giovanni Galea and the new entrant left an instant impact as two minutes into the second half he sped into the area to meet Marco Piciollo’s low cross and stab the ball home.

But Qormi managed to restore their two goal lead on 64 minutes when Ryan Micallef stole possession on the edge of the area before moving past two defenders and hit a low shot past Senatore.

But Floriana refused to lie down and two minutes later Isaac Galea’s cross was not dealt with by Qormi goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia and Vito Plut was on hand to stab the ball into the net.

Floriana increased their efforts to score an equaliser but it was Qormi who struck the killer blow when four minutes from time Effiong embarked on a surging run, exchanged the ball with Carmelo Farrugia before chipping the ball past Senatore.

Qormi midfielder Anderson was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
