SLIEMA WANDERERS-4, MOSTA-1

Stephen Azzopardi began his second spell as Sliema coach on an excellent note as the Wanderers trounced Mosta 4-1 to make it three wins in a row.

Sliema deserved the three points as they were by far the more organised side while Mosta never got going despite having an extra man on the field for the entire of the second half after Cliffordf Gatt Baldacchino had been sent off for two two yellow cards.

Mosta fashioned the first scoring opportunity after five minutes. Pedrinho's cross from a free-kick was partially cleared by Sliema as Mark Brincat was first to the loose ball only to send his shot over the bar.

After Mark Scerri's long-range effort was headed away by Tyrone Farrugia, Sliema took the lead.

Mosta were caught flat-footed at the back as Filippo Talato's cross from the right set up Guy Kassa Gnabouyou who fired past Marcus Bernal.

The Blues threatened to add to their advantage as Gnabouyou's cross came to Mangiacasale who produced a fierce volley but Marcus Bernal pulled off a fine save to tip the ball over the crossbar.

Earlier, Azzopardi had been forced into his first substitution as defender Stefano Bianciardi was unable to continue after picking up an injury. He was replaced by Marko Potezica.

Talato had an excellent chance to doubled the Blues' lead but the Italian headed wide from point blank after meeting John Mintoff's cross.

The Blues were the brighter side but they looked to have suffered a blow when Gatt Baldacchino, who had just been booked for pulling Kaljevic, was dismissed for a second yellow card after bringing down the Montenegrin striker.
Pedrinho's curling free-kick landed wide of the far post.

Despite being a man down, it was Sliema who increased their lead a minute into the second half. Potezica supplied a good cross from the left, Gnabouyou laid the ball on to Mangiacasale who fired home at the far post.

Subdued and lacking motivation in the first half, Mosta now really had to up their game but their defensive difficulties were exposed again when Sliema went 3-0 up.

Bueno headed wide from Pedrinho's free-kick.

Pisanu's pass from a free-kick rolled to Mangiacasale who had been left unmarked. The Italian's flick was repelled by Bernal but Gnabouyou rifled his shot into the net.

Sasa Jovanovic, who had just come for the ineffective Pedrinho, came close to pulling one back for Mosta but he was denied by Glenn Zammit who had just beaten away a dangerous effort from Bueno.

The Sliema goalkeeper then stopped a strong shot from Kaljevic, who had been sent clear by Bueno, as Mosta tried to make a reaction.

Kaljevic reduced the arrears when his long-range drive caught Zammit out of position 10 minutes from the end.

Sliema should have re-established their three-goal lead when Cilia served the advancing Mangiacasale who blasted over with only Bernal to beat.

With six minutes remaining, Sliema were awarded a penalty after Pisanu passed to Mintoff who cut into the box but his pogression was blocked by Farrugia. From the spot, Pisanu made no mistake.

Sliema striker Gnabouyou was named BOV player of the match.
