A Sicilian man, 36, was remanded in custody this afternoon after he pleaded not guilty to possession and trafficking of cannabis plants and resin on and before October 16.

Aldo Pistella, from Agrigento, also denied being in possession of cocaine.

The defence asked the court to appoint a court expert to test their client for drugs.

Magistrate Charmaine Galea acceded to this request. However, she turned down a request for bail and the man was remanded in custody.

Dr Sarah Sultana was defence counsel.
