A man serving time in prison was yesterday charged with an armed robbery at a confectionery and with attempted theft from a pharmacy.

Wayne Delia, 29, was reported to the police by his alleged partner-in-crime, Andrea Busuttil, who was charged separately earlier this year. According to the police, the pair stole from the confectionery, in Paola, on December 28 last year at 3.40pm.

They held the owner of Tic Tic Confectionery at gunpoint and made off with cash and cigarettes. Two days earlier, at 8.30pm, they had attempted another armed robbery at the Qormi pharmacy. At the Drugshop, they held a pharmacist and two doctors at gunpoint. Something went wrong and the robbery was foiled.

Mr Delia was also charged with being in possession of a weapon. Appearing before Magistrate Aaron Bugeja, he pleaded not guilty to the charges. No request for bail was made. Police Inspectors Joseph Mercieca and Spiridione Zammit prosecuted.
