A day after he was jailed for 21 months over a string of thefts, a career robber was imprisoned for a further four years and three months for raiding a perfumery.

Stephen Galli, 50, of Sliema, was convicted of stealing cosmetics and perfumes from Chemimart, in Valletta, on November 13 and taking a donation box from the outlet on July 30, breaching previous court orders, relapsing and committing a crime during the operative period of a probation order.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri revoked bail granted to him in another case and the forfeiture of a €2,000 personal guarantee.

He also sentenced Mr Galli to another two-and-a-half years after finding him guilty of stealing a bag containing silverware and jewellery, worth thousands of euros, from the Preluna Hotel, Sliema, where they were being taken for an exhibition. Only some of the stolen items have been recovered.
