A man who was yesterday jailed for 21 months for a string of thefts was today sentenced to a further four years and three months after being found guilty of more thefts.

Stephen Galli, 50, from Sliema, was found guilty of stealing cosmetics and perfumes from Chemimart in Valletta on November 13 last year and of stealing a donation box from the same shop on July 30 this year, breaching previous court orders, relapsing and committing a crime during the operative period of a probation order.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri jailed him for 21 months and ordered the revocation of his bail over a separate case and the confiscation of a €2,000 personal guarantee.

Presiding over a different case, the same magistrate jailed the career thief a further two-and-a-half years after finding him guilty of stealing a bag containing precious silverware and jewellery, worth thousands of euros, from the Preluna Hotel in Sliema as they were being carried inside for an exhibition.

Only some of the jewellery and silverware had been recovered.

Police Inspector Darryl Borg prosecuted in the first case while Police Inspector Saviour Baldacchino led the prosecution in the second case.
