The planning authority has launched a public consultation on a new procedure for minor modifications to subsidiary plans. Currently, a planning control application is needed to change zoning or street alignment together with a written declaration signed by at least 75 per cent of the land owners in the impacted area.

The authority may also request legal proof of land ownership by affected parties. The proposed amendment would simplify and reduce bureaucracy by eliminating the need for written consent by third parties, and facilitating the processing of planning control applications, Mepa said.

Third parties would still need to be notified and the provisions for third parties to make submissions will not be affected. This amendment does not apply for planning control applications related to rationalisation sites. The draft amendment is at www.mepa.org.mt/public-consultation.

Submissions can be sent to the CEO, PO Box 200, Marsa GPO 01 or e-mail feedback@mepa. org.mt before November 14.
