Swieqi is mainly a residential area and surely the authorities are aware it is full of poorly-surfaced roads. Much work has been done in recent months to improve the quality of its roads. But much yet remains to be done.

There are four cases in point. Triq it-Tiben, in the direction of the HSBC bank branch, now has a pockmarked surface, rendering driving inconvenient.

The busy Triq il-Keffa, near the new police station and local council offices, is a notoriously corrugated road. Triq il-Ġiebja, moving up and down towards Wied il-Għomor valley, is also pockmarked and hazardous. All these roads have been neglected for years.

But the main problem lies with traffic forking left into Swieqi from Regional Road into Triq il-Marbat.

Its surface is incredibly bad, with irregular humps, and a corrugated surface.

This effectively slows down traffic. But it is not the ideal way to do so, since it resembles standards more akin to a third rate country.

All these roads – and there may locally be others – are crying out for urgent improvement.
