O’Shea: Sunderland captain John O’Shea completed a week to remember yesterday by signing two-year contract extension which will keep him at the Stadium of Light until 2017. The defender, who marked his 100th cap for Ireland by scoring a stoppage time equaliser in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against world champions Germany in a Euro 2016 qualifier, moved to the north east from Manchester United in 2011.

Ibrahimovic: Paris St Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has yet to fully recover from a heel injury and has been ruled out of the French champions’ Ligue 1 game against RC Lens today, coach Laurent Blanc said. “It’s going in the right direction but he is not ready to train with the squad and play,” Blanc said. Centre back Thiago Silva, however, is back from a thigh injury that has kept him out of action since mid-August, Blanc said.

Adams: Former Leicester manager Micky Adams has been appointed the new Tranmere manager. The 52-year-old has only been out of work for a few weeks after leaving Port Vale earlier this season and replaces Rob Edwards in the hot-seat at Prenton Park following his sacking on Monday. Adams has a different battle on his hands with Rovers as he inherits a club bottom of the Football League and without a win in seven league games.

Taylor: Burnley midfielder Matthew Taylor will miss this weekend’s reunion with old club West Ham because he needs an Achilles operation. The 32-year-old, who left Upton Park to join the Clarets in the summer, has not featured since the goalless draw with Manchester United at the end of August. Manager Sean Dyche said: “Matty Taylor unfortunately is going to have to have a minor operation. He’s got a niggle in his Achilles and unfortunately it just hasn’t settled down.”
