Prime Minister Joseph Muscat was one of three European keynote speakers at the EU-Asia summit being held in Milan, the government said.

He said the two regions could form a strong alliance to address global problems which affected their people. Although there were differences in how the two continents viewed various issues, this should not deter closer collaboration. Indeed, it should motivate them for closer convergence.

Dr Muscat said that one of the forthcoming tests for the international community would be the global conference on climate change in Paris next year.

Next year would also see talks on the Post 2015 Development Agenda.

Dr Muscat said much remained to be done in the area of human rights through dialogue.

He said the two sides should also be further discussing digital connectivity.

He said the two continents should also look forward to the recent concept known as the New Green and Blue Silk Road which would link the two continents with Africa in economic and commercial relations.
