A 50-year-old man was this morning jailed for 21 months after a court found him guilty of committing a string of thefts from several shops in Sliema and Valletta in 2012.

Magistrate Ian Farrugia said Stephen Galli, from Sliema, had been given many chances to bring his life back on the right track but had never seized the opportunity. He also found him guilty of committing the crime when he was on bail over another case.

Mr Galli pleaded guilty to stealing clothes from a shop in Sliema and Ray Ban sunglasses from a shop in Valletta on April 19, 2012. He also admitted to damaging a pair of sunglasses at Sunlab in Sliema and to breaching the conditions of previous releases.

Magistrate Farrugia jailed him for 21 months.

Police Inspector Chris Pullicino prosecuted.
