A syndicate of six construction workers is celebrating after scooping more than £300,000 in the EuroMillions lottery the first time they played together.

The group, who work in Glasgow and all live near each other in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, matched five numbers and one Lucky Star in last Tuesday’s draw.

The “Six of the Best” syndicate members will each take a £55,527.90 share of the £333,167.40 win.

Beer and bath for record breaker

A man who has set a new world record after snowboarding for 24 hours has said he will celebrate by having a bath and drinking a beer.

Rich Millington, 31, completed 308 runs of an indoor real-snow slope at the Chill Factore, in Manchester, to claim a new official Guinness World Record for greatest distance snowboarded indoors in 24 hours.

A crowd of supporters counted down from 10 and cheered as Mr Millington snowboarded his final run and reached the bottom of the slope.

Cameron just can’t resist a selfie

David Cameron has admitted he cannot refuse selfie snaps with voters, claiming it would be rude to turn down a request.

Explaining why he posed for the pictures, the Prime Minister said politicians were “in the business of trying to win people over”.

Appearing on ITV’s The Agenda, Mr Cameron also said he expected a large turnout in next year’s general election because voters faced a “very big choice” between him and Labour leader Ed Miliband.

Thief legged it with artificial limb

A prosthetic leg reported stolen from a veteran in a wheelchair outside the Eagles-Giants football game in south Philadelphia was later recovered on a subway train, police said.

Sonny Forriest Jr, who is known for singing for fans outside Phillies and Eagles games, told officers he had taken off his prosthetic leg during his performance.

He said he was packing up to leave when a woman in her 20s wearing Eagles gear who appeared intoxicated approached and took the leg.

Beer event forced to change name

Authorities in Finland have ordered the Beer and Whisky Expo Finland 2014 to change its name, arguing that it violates Finland’s law against advertising liquor.

Organisers say next week’s event will now be called simply a beer expo, since advertising mild alcoholic beverages is allowed.

Chief organiser Mikki Nyman said the decision “smacks of typical patronising attitudes” of bureaucrats. Finland, known for its heavy drinkers, has a state-controlled alcohol monopoly.

Imposter guest stole wedding gifts

Police are looking for a man they say posed as a guest at a Connecticut wedding reception and stole gifts from the bride and groom.

They say the man fled the Longshore Inn in Westport with a birdcage filled with wedding cards, many apparently containing cash for the couple.

Police used dogs to try to track the man. They recovered the empty birdcage. The wedding crasher was seen on video surveillance cameras. Police have released screen grabs in the hope somebody might recognise him.
