A snowboarder who has set a new world record after snowboarding for 24 hours at a venue in Greater Manchester has said he will celebrate by having a bath and drinking a beer.

Rich Millington, 31, completed 308 runs of an indoor real-snow slope at the Chill Factore, in Trafford, to claim a new official Guinness World Record for greatest distance snowboarded indoors in 24 hours.

He began the charity challenge on Monday and completed it at noon on Tuesday after snowboarding through the night in sub-zero temperatures.

A crowd of supporters counted down from 10 and cheered as Mr Millington snowboarded his final run and reached the bottom of the slope.

Mr Millington, who works as a guest service supervisor at the Chill Factore, undertook the record attempt to raise money for Disability Snowsports UK after being inspired by a colleague who suffered a spinal injury.

Speaking at the end of the challenge, he said: "I'm feeling wonderful, feeling good, tired, excited, a little bit drained obviously after being in the Chill Factore for 24 hours riding around."

When asked how he was going to celebrate, the snowboarder said: "I'm going to sit in the bath and drink a beer."

Mr Millington described the challenge as "good fun" and said adrenaline had got him through the cold and the difficult moments.

He said: "My worst part was six o'clock this morning when I had a little crash. I'd been drinking a lot of water and eating food regularly but at some point I just stopped, my body just didn't want to work. I couldn't drink anything else, I couldn't eat anything, I just felt really sick. I wasn't sick though and there's only one thing to do, just strap your board on and get back on the lift."

Mr Millington had to snowboard 25 kilometres and stay within the Chill Factore for 24 hours to set the record.
