Prime Minister Joseph Muscat denied there was a VVIP section at the reception held in honour of Prince William during his visit for the 50th anniversary of Independence.

Replying to a question by Chris Said (PN), Dr Muscat said those invited for that particular reception were people active in the volunteering community, people with disabilities, women’s rights activists, LGBTI activists, people who work against domestic violence, drug rehabilitation volunteers, cancer survivors and those who rendered a service in education.

He said the guest list was compiled in consultation with the British High Commission and Kensington Palace and security was a main motivator in the decisions taken.

Those who might be termed as the important people present were the Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister, Opposition leader and the deputy leaders of the two parties represented in Parliament.
