The Union Haddiema Maghqudin has called on the government to hold a press conference to explain the power station delay and how the project will evolve.

In a statement, the union said the governemnt should explain the sustainability of the reduced water and energy tariffs. It hoped that the burden of lower tariffs for homes and businesses would not be shouldered by taxpayers through some form of taxation.

Meanwhile, Labour MP Silvio Parnis, as chairman of the Committee for the South, welcomed an explanation given by the prime minister yesterday, noting that the prime minister had confirmed that the Marsa power station would close and the BWSC plant would be converted to gas, meaning that Malta would have two gas power stations, which were cleaner that power stations that used heavy fuel oil.
