The passing away of Antoine Pace Bonello at the venerable age of 93 has been received with sadness by the many members of the George Cross Island Association both in the United Kingdom as well as in Malta.

He was, from the very early days of the association, a very active member and had also been instrumental in the foundation of the Malta Branch of which he was the honorary president.

To those who knew him well or served under him, he was the most affable person and he could always put his point across without pulling rank.

His manner was always courteous and would win over anybody coming into contact with him.

The service he rendered with the Royal Malta Artillery during World War II and in the post-war years earned him the respect of his subordinates and superiors alike.

Indeed, he was a true officer and a gentleman. I am sure that he will be remembered in the prayers of the many who had the privilege of knowing him.
