Netherlands: Netherlands goalkeeper Tim Krul and midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum have withdrawn from the Euro 2016 qualifier in Iceland today after picking up injuries during training. Krul, who is the back-up goalkeeper in the Dutch squad, hurt his elbow on Saturday and has been replaced for the trip to Reykjavik by Feyenoord’s Kenneth Vermeer. Wijnaldum, who has hurt his knee, is not being replaced.

South Korea: Jeonbuk Motors put themselves within one win of the K-League Classic title after a second half strike by Brazilian Kaio gave them a 1-0 victory over Ulsan Hyundai yesterday. The win, courtesy of the 70th minute goal, maintained their five-point lead at the top of the standings with only two games remaining. They can win a third title with another three points at Incheon United on Saturday.

Romania: Romania have called up defender Bogdan Mitrea as a replacement for the injured Dorin Goian ahead of next week’s Euro 2016 Group F qualifier in Finland. Coach Victor Piturca turned to FC Viitorul Constanta’s Mitrea after Goian sustained an ankle injury in the opening minutes of Saturday’s 1-1 home draw against Hungary. Piturca is already without injured striker Ciprian Marica for tomorrow’s match in Helsinki.

Violence: Romanian police detained 30 soccer fans in connection with crowd violence before, during and after Romania’s highly-charged 1-1 draw against neighbours Hungary in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Saturday. Skirmishes broke out near the National Arena with rival fans throwing fireworks, missiles and smoke bombs at each other while Hungarian “ultras” destroyed the buses they were in because their national flag was wrongly printed.

Liverpool: Liverpool retained their Women’s Super League title on goal difference in a dramatic finish as Chelsea crashed to defeat at Manchester City while Birmingham were held yesterday. After cruising to a 3-0 win over Bristol at Widnes the Liverpool players waited nervously and were rewarded as City, down to 10, hung on for a 2-1 win over Chelsea while Birmingham were held to a 2-2 draw by Notts County.
