Stephen Azzopardi will make a return to club management this week after he reached an agreement with Sliema Wanderers to take over the reins of the Premier League club.

Azzopardi held talks with Sliema president Keith Perry last week and an agreement was finally sealed yesterday with the former Birkirkara and Qormi coach putting pen to paper on a contract that expires at the end of the 2015-16 season.

The Wanderers have been on the look-out for a new coach after last week they parted ways with Alfonso Greco following the team’s unimpressive start to the 2014-15 campaign.

Despite the high-profile acquisition of Michael Mifsud in the summer, the Blues have struggled to leave their mark.

The Wanderers have only two wins to show from their opening seven matches, both coming against newly-promoted sides Pietá Hotspurs and Żebbuġ Rangers. They are currently seventh in the standings with nine points.

For Azzopardi this will be his second spell with the Wanderers after he had guided the Blues between November 2007 and January 2010.

During that period, Azzo-pardi had helped Sliema to winning the FA Trophy and the Super Cup.

His last coaching job was with Floriana when he succeeded Englishman Mark Wright before he opted to step down from the job in January 2013.

Azzopardi is expected to make his debut as Sliema coach on Saturday when the Wanderers take on Mosta at the Tedesco Stadium.
