The Subway brand has recently reached the milestone of 4,500 stores operating in Europe, with the latest addition being a Subway store in the Fischmarkt in the centre of Basel, Switzerland.
“The first European Subway store opened in Ireland in 1992. Since then the brand has expanded its operations and increased its presence in Europe with stores now open in 33 countries in Europe.
“In total, the franchises employ about 45,000 throughout Europe,” said Marc Kreder, Subway brand’s regional director for Europe.
There are currently four stores in Malta, employing about 40 people.
