Various samples of loom charms from identified suppliers were lifted from the market and tested by the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority for the presence of banned chemical products, namely phthalates.

These charms have been found to contain concentrations that exceed the legal limit prescribed in the applicable legislation (Reach Regulation EC 1907/2006).

In view of this, the authority has ordered the immediate recall of loom charms from the market and advises consumers to remove these products from the reach of children and to return them to the place of purchase.

The MCCAA has ordered a recall of these charms since all brands sampled and tested were found to contain phthalate concentrations exceeding the legal limit.

The authority also warned economic operators that enforcement and legal action would be taken if these products are found on the market or being supplied in any way.
