Mariella Cassar-Cordina was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in recognition of her research with the Faculty of Music and Theatre Arts at Plymouth University, in collaboration with Falmouth University, Cornwall, UK.

Cassar-Cordina’s work focused on the exploration of Maltese culture and identity through a study on Maltese composer Charles Camilleri and her own portfolio of compositions.

The aim of this research was to explore the relationship between place, identity and musical practice, in relation to Malta’s history and culture.

A number of CDs and DVDs accompanied this document with recordings and MIDI files of the selected compositions.

Cassar-Cordina is the Education Officer for Music and a lecturer at the School of Performing Arts at the University of Malta.
