New passenger arrivals to Malta will be greeted by something a little different next weekend – the vibrant voices of some of Malta’s top artists and performers as they take part in the first-ever Talbot and Bons Live Music Marathon at Skyparks in Gudja

The event, which is planned to be the first of many, will raise funds for the YMCA Homeless and the Hospice Movement.

This year’s promises to set the ball rolling in style with around 45 acts covering a variety of genres over 50 hours of non-stop music.

“The idea is to raise awareness about the sterling work done by these two organisations and to enjoy performances by some of Malta’s best known personalities,” says organiser Amy Talbot.

One of the acts scheduled is popular singer Rachel Fabri who will be performing twice – on Friday with Kevin Spiteri on guitar, and on Sunday with her guitarist husband Andrew Camilleri. Both sets guarantee to be a brilliant mix of golden oldies, well-loved classics and current favourites, from ballads to more up-tempo numbers.

Being able to raise fund for YMCA Homeless and the Hospice through a love in music is wonderful

“Taking part in events such as this one is brilliant,” Fabri says with a smile. “Although I perform and teach performance as a living, I also believe in sharing talent for a good cause. Being able to raise fund for YMCA Homeless and the Hospice through a love in music is absolutely wonderful.”

Meanwhile, audiences are definitely in for a treat – it will be a great atmosphere with delicious food and a plethora of live entertainment. “It really promises to be something special,” she says.

Echoing that sentiment, guitarist Keith Kiko Muscat and vocalist Sandrina, both from the band Scarlet, will be presenting an acoustic set.

“Sandrina and I take part in as many charity events as we can. We have done a lot so far and even created a few ourselves,” says Muscat.

Aside from the philanthropic aspect, the duo is also looking forward to the social side of the marathon.

“It’s fantastic to meet so many similarly-minded people and to all enjoy each other’s performances. Music marathons create a unique atmosphere of collaboration, which always promises audiences something different and exciting to look forward to.”

Muscat and Sandrina will be playing one set during the marathon and will present popular covers of bands including Coldplay, Adele and Rihanna.

“It will be a bit of everything with something for everyone,” Muscat continues.

“The upbeat ambience will doubtlessly prove infectious. We certainly hope to achieve a full-house and for people to give as generously as they can. It’s going to be a marvellous addition to the October music calendar. A must-attend,” he adds.

The Talbot & Bons Music Marathon takes place from Friday to next Sunday at Skyparks, Gudja.
