Valletta FC have brought in another former club stalwart to their coaching set-up after appointing Ivan Zammit as the new technical director.

Zammit started talks with the club officials earlier this week and an agreement was reached yesterday with the former City and Malta midfielder putting pen to paper on a contract until the end of the season.

Valletta have been performing well below their best this season and are currently lagging behind in the BOV Premier League standings.

In their last outing, the Citizens suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to newly-promoted Pietà Hotspurs, their third loss from the opening seven matches that left them fifth in the standings on 10 points, 11 adrift of early pacesetters Hibernians.

Zammit was engaged to give a helping hand to coach Gilbert Agius, the former City captain who continues to retain the faith of the club.

Zammit has enjoyed a golden spell with Valletta as a player where he won all major domestic honours.

He also played a starring role in the club’s extra-ordinary 2000-01 season when they succeeded in winning all six honours at stake, including the coveted Centenary Cup following a 3-1 victory over Floriana in the final with Zammit being among the scorers.

Zammit has also experience as a Premier League coach after leading Balzan in the top flight a couple of seasons ago.

Last year, he was in charge of Division One side Gżira United before stepping down at the end of the season.
