Ashley: Mike Ashley, the owner of English Premier League club Newcastle United, has called for the removal of the chief executive and a director at Rangers after increasing his stake in the Scottish club. Rangers said yesterday that Ashley now wants the club to call a shareholder meeting to forward resolutions to remove Graham Wallace, CEO since last November, and financial consultant Philip Nash as directors of the company.

Match-fixing: Singapore has extended detention orders that allow it to hold four people accused of being involved in a global match-fixing syndicate without charge, the Ministry of Home Affairs said. The four Singaporeans were arrested in 2013, together with 10 others, for their alleged roles in trying to rig soccer matches around the world and had been detained for the past year. The original order held until October 2. One of those detained is businessman Tan Seet Eng, also known as Dan Tan, who has been accused by Interpol as being the head of the match-fixing syndicate.

Martins: Former France international midfielder Corentin Martins has been named as the new coach of Mauritania but no details of the 45-year-old’s contract were given by the country’s football federation in a statement confirming the appointment on Tuesday. Martins, who has limited coaching experience with lower-league Quimper and Stade Brest in the French league, replaces compatriot Patrice Neveu, who was fired after Mauritania were eliminated from African Nations Cup qualifiers in August.

R. Bucharest: Rapid Bucharest have been ordered to play their next two home games at a neutral ground and fined 22,500 Lei ($6,471) after fans racially abused Concordia Chiajna striker Wellington. The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) imposed the punishment yesterday and also fined the home club Concordia 15,000 Lei for poor organisation. Brazilian forward Wellington accused visiting Rapid fans of throwing a banana and making racial slurs against him during the tense goalless draw last Friday.
