After the Euro 2016 qualifying win in Andorra, Wales rose to their highest world ranking for 20 years after climbing 12 positions to join Scotland in 29th place.

Last month, Wales beat Andorra away 2-1 thanks to a double from Gareth Bale to open their qualifying campaign on the right track.

Under Terry Yorath, Wales had attained their highest ever FIFA ranking of 27th in August 1993.

On that occasion, Wales were close to qualifying for a major championship, coming within a whisker of reaching the 1994 World Cup.

Needing to win the final game of the group at home to Romania, Paul Bodin missed a penalty when the score was level at 1-1. Romania went on to win the match 2-1 and Wales’ chance was lost.
