A Chicago man, Mohammed Hamzah Khan, has been accused of attempting to support a foreign terrorist organization.

19 year old Khan who lives in the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook was arrested at O'Hare airport over the weekend after he tried to board a flight to Turkey.

Khan told federal agents he planned to meet a contact there who would take him to Syria to join Islamic State.

During a search of his home, agents said they found notebooks and letters to his family detailing his plans.

Khan is being held until a detention hearing later this week.

If found guilty of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, Khan faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
