Superintendent Sandro Zarb has been promoted to Assistant Commissioner, the police said.

He has been entrusted with the Malta Police Force's Protective Services, which include the Rapid Intervention Unit, which he formerly headed, the Traffic Section, Administrative Law Enforcement Unit, Mounted and Dogs Section and Control Room.

The Minister for Home Affairs and National Security, Emanuel Mallia and and Acting Police Commissioner Raymond Zammit attended a short ceremony during which he congratulated Mr Zarb.

The shadow minister for home affairs, Jason Azzopardi, commented on Facebook that the police now had 10 assistant commissioners. He asked if there were more chiefs than Indians.
