The heavy traffic on our roads has become a major problem in terms of noise and air pollution, time wasted in driving from one place to another and accidents. The planned large developments in many urban areas will add to the problems. Some areas are more impacted than others and sometimes are more problematic than others.
A congestion charge operated at peak traffic times in the worst hit areas of Malta and Gozo could be a quick way to discourage people from driving there, unless they have to or are willing to pay for it. These charges operate everywhere around the world and it would not take much to administer them in Malta.
These measures should of course be accompanied by efficient management by Transport Malta to administer the system and more importantly to drastically improve public transport.
