An installation that celebrates the selection of Valletta as European Capital of Culture was inaugurated this evening at the corner of the bus terminus with Ġlormu Cassar Avenue.

Designed by architect Chris Briffa, Prospettiva (prospective) recalls Valletta's old city gates through a “temporal collage”.

It incorporates the five different gates at the entrance to Valletta that have made way for each other over time.

The installation was selected in a competition by a jury made up of Richard England, Rupert Cefai and Carlo Schembri.

During the inauguration Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said the installation was completed by government workers on time and on budget and it would be one of the legacies of Valletta 18.

Valletta 2018 Foundation Chairman Jason Micallef said this was a symbol of how Valletta 2018 intended to make art accessible to the public.
