Steve Camilleri, the Neptunes and Malta star player, has moved from Rari Nantes Bogliasco to Sicilian club Circolo Canottieri Sette Scogli, of Syracuse, after being engaged by the Serie A1 club from Genoa for the last six seasons.

It will be another chapter in the player’s career, one which will open new horizons for him.

“This move will offer me a new challenge which I hope will give me a fresh impetus and more satisfaction in the way of honours,” he told The Sunday Times of Malta.

“The club has a relatively short history and has only just been promoted. The objective for this season is to reach the play-offs and to challenge for a place in Italy’s top division.

“The team is coached by Aldo Baio who in the past guided CC Ortigia in the top division.”

Camilleri said leaving Bogliasco was no easy decision but Baio convinced him to join CC 7 Scogli. “At the end of last season it was mutually decided that I would no longer form part of RN Bogliasco,” he said.

“It was a tough decision as I had been at the club for the past six seasons, in the process becoming the team’s all-time best scorer with over 300 league goals.

“Over the summer I was in contact with various top teams such as Acquachiara and Lazio. However, for different reasons, we never concluded. I was then approached by Baio since I had known him for a few years.

“We spoke about the team’s projects and the idea immediately interested me.

“Sette Scogli are ambitious and motivated and I felt up for this new challenge.

“There’s also the added factor that the club is closer to home and family.”

This season, the Sicilian side should figure among the contenders for the Serie A2 title, with the Maltese player’s scoring ability and all-round skills adding to their potential.
