Alternative rock four-piece band WaterWings has just launched its debut single, Steal the Crown, with accompanying video.

Made up of musicians Marc Alan Spiteri on bass and keyboard and vocals, Ryan Bezzina on drums, Luca Baldacchino on guitars and René Camilleri on keyboards , the band counts a diverse array of genres among its influences.

These influences converged for the creation of Steal The Crown, a track that fuses rock with elements of pop and orchestral arrangements. All four band members also contributed to the lyrics and the track was produced and recorded by Niki Gravino.

“At face value the lyrics can be fun and cheesy. But if the listeners dig deeper, there is quite the metaphor there,” the band said.

Work on the video, which was done by Neomax Studios, started some months ago. The concept was still in its initial stages, with the musicians only sure of one thing... they wanted to go big.

At the end, the band decided to portray the metaphor through its literal meaning, involving an actual crown. From there, the concept evolved into a robbery scenario, including a glamorous car chase, that wouldn’t have been amiss in a James Bond movie.

“The biggest challenge was the logistic aspect. Because of day job commitments we wound up filming till the early hours. After a few days, the gruelling schedule started taking its toll, but the urge to succeed drove us.”

Waterwings are currently working on their debut album and planning gigs for the upcoming seasons.
