BERNARD – Count Dr FRANCIS EDGAR PAUL BERNARD, MBChB (Edin.), MRC.Psych. (Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist), 18.5.1931-19.9.2014. Died peacefully in Battersea, London, after a long and eventful life in Malta, Nigeria and Britain. He leaves his wife Jacqueline and two sons, Marc and Paul, three grandchildren and many close friends, all of whom will remember him with great affection and gratitude.

CARUANA. On October 1, at Casa Antonia, Balzan, MARIA CONCETTA (Mary), of Birżebbuġa, passed away at the venerable age of 104. She leaves to mourn her loss her nephews and nieces, Richard Bonello, Maurice Caruana and his wife Mary Rose, Victor Caruana and his wife Catherine, John Briffa and his wife Josette, Alfred Bonello and his wife Violet, Antonella Mousu’ and her husband Salvatore, Doreen Azzopardi Giappone and her husband Albert, Fr Silvio Briffa, Bice, widow of Victor Bonello, Elena Lautrup, Tessie, widow of Antoine Caruana, Grace, widow of Mario Briffa, Lillian, widow of Joseph Bonello, Maria, wife of Hugh Large, Maria, widow of Ronald Caruana, Oliver and his wife Ann and Hugh Caruana, and their respective children. The funeral cortège leaves Casa Antonia today at 9.30am for Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery chapel where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 10am, followed by interment. The family would like to thank the management and staff of Casa Antonia for their care and dedication during her stay. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

CAUCHI. On September 30, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPH of Floriana, residing in Sliema, former assistant head teacher at Naxxar school, passed away at the age of 86, comforted by the rites of Holy Church,. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Annie, his children Maria and her husband Alphonse Anastasi, Joe and his wife Marisa, Gloria and her husband Ray Mangion, his brothers and sister, Michael residing in UK, Godfrey and Doris, and their spouses, his grandchildren Andrew, Christine, Keith, Bernard, Adrian, Anne Marie, Joseph and Christopher and their spouses and their fiancés, his great-grandchildren Emma, Mae and Luca, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral cortege leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 9.45am for Jesus of Nazareth parish church, Sliema, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 10.15am, followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. EBEJER. On October 2, at Sir Paul Boffa Hospital, ANNA, of Paola, residing in Fgura, aged 57, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. Loved and remembered by her husband Joe, her children Angie and her husband Roland, Lello and his wife Ruth, Bernice and her husband Melchior, and Rebecca, her grandchildren Sean, Laura and Zachary, her father George Grech, her brothers and sisters, in-laws, their respective spouses and families, brethren of the Neocatechumenal Way, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8am for Christ the King parish church, Paola, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 8.30am, followed by interment at Tal-Erwieħ Cemetery, Tarxien. ZAMMIT. On October 2, at Mater Dei Hospital, VINCENT of St Julian’s, ex-Customs Officer, aged 76, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Mary, his daughters Tania and her husband Richard Crossley, Theresa, and her partner Roger Micallef (widow of Antoine Azzopardi), his grandchildren David, Nathan and his fiancée Naomi, his brothers and sister, in-laws, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8.30am for St Julian’s parish church where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 9am, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. On the 30th anniversary of the passing away of Capt. HARRY BECK, Masses for the repose of his soul will be said today and tomorrow at 8.30am and on Sunday, October 5 at 10am at St John of the Cross parish church, Ta’ Xbiex. Scripture course

A short course on themes in scripture will start on Tuesday at 7.30pm at the Missionary Society of St Paul (MSSP) Oratory, Birkirkara. Sessions will be held every Tuesday until October 28.

The course provides a general introduction to scripture, deepens central recurrent themes therein, and aims to help participants understand the spirit with which the Word of God was written.

Sub Post office closed
