Some 300 proposals have been submitted to the Finance Ministry to be included in the Pre-budget document, Finance Minister Edward Scicluna said this morning.

Addressing the seventh consultative meeting on the pre budget document, Prof. Scicluna told stakeholders that some 23 proposals had already been taken on board.

These ranged from bicycle incentives to tax breaks and would be included in the final document which would be finalised in the coming weeks.

The meeting gathered representatives from a range of fields, ranging from the nurse's union MUMN to the General Workers' Union.

At the start of the meeting, hotelier Winston Zahra jokingly reminded Prof. Scicluna not to forget to include a VAT break for hotels, something he had long been calling for. Prof. Scicluna quipped that he did not hear where the suggestion was coming from.

Social dialogue Minister Helena Dalli hosted the meeting, and described how the government had been engaged in a bottom up consultation with the public.

"This is the most important document for the entire year as far as the people are concerned," she said.
