I fully endorse what Carmel Sammut from Mosta (September 25) wrote about the coverage of the celebrations held to mark the 50th anniversary of our island’s independence.

I thought this was a celebration for all the population but it seems that only those who could make it to Valletta could enjoy it.

The rest of us who, for various reasons, could not make to the capital it were not so lucky because our local television station could not give us this service even though it was announced that it would be doing so.

The World Cup coverage was perfect even though it was held thousands of miles away. It was done punctually. An important historical event that was meant to unite all the Maltese could not be transmitted on the day but when it was all over.

The decision disappointed many of us at home.
