Malta, Latvia and Estonia were the best performing EU states when it came to compliance with EU legislation, according to the 31st Annual Report on monitoring the application of EU law, launched today.
Italy, Spain and Greece, on the other hand, had the worst record.
The report found that there has been a marked decrease in the number of on-going infringement cases in recent years while the number of cases resolved through in problem solving mechanisms such as EU Pilot had increased.
As in 2012, most infringements (62 per cent) concerned compliance with EU law on the environment, taxation, transport and internal market and services.
