My appreciation of organ music goes back to my childhood times when I used to form part of the Mosta church choir, singing and watching the organist handling the grand organ. For the titular feast, the balcony was extended to accommodate the orchestra and choir. What an experience! Nowadays it seems everyone is lazy to go up those stairs.

The Malta International Organ Festival offered one the opportunity to follow three concerts. Unfortunately, I missed the first one by Wayne Marshall as on that day I happened to be in Lourdes. Actually, we were touring the Sacre-Coeur parish church where Bernadette was baptised and a surprise was awaiting me.

This church is endowed with a huge organ at the back of the altar and you can actually see the organist playing, which he did.

After reading Anthony Hart’s report (September 14), I realised what I missed. I had seen Marshall playing some years back at a concert before the St Augustine’s organ was dismantled to be renovated.
