The Malta Police Association wrote to the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister calling for police extra duties to be taxed separately at 15 per cent.

The association said this was essentially work the police officers carried out on behalf of the force for companies and organisations.

Members of the force, it noted, were not allowed to work part-time and this was the only way for them to get an additional income over their wage. So it should be considered part time work and taxed as such.

The MPA said it was expecting this request to be included in the next budget.
