A woman was acquitted of assaulting her estranged husband after a court noted a number of inconsistencies, including the brand of sunglasses that she supposedly damaged.

The incident happened on June 30, 2012, at about 4.15pm when the husband went to pick up their children from Sliema, where the defendant, 34, lives.

He testified that the woman reached into his car, pulled his hair, removed his Ray-Ban sunglasses and threw them inside the car, where their son was sitting.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri noted that in his police report, the husband had not said she had pulled his hair.

Neither did he tell the police she had damaged his sunglasses. Besides, the husband said he had thrown away his Ray-Bans, so they could not be exhibited as evidence.

The court also pointed out that when he submitted an estimate of the damage caused, the document referred to Emporio Armani sunglasses not Ray-Ban.

In light of such inconsistencies, the court felt the charges had not been sufficiently proven and cleared the woman.
