The new rainwater catchment system has now reached an advanced stage and should alleviate several flood-prone areas in the country during downpours.

Low lying ground at Marsascala, particularly the wharf near Il-Magħluq, is subject to seasonal tides which flood parts of a very busy traffic junction with seawater. Vehicles coming from Triq il-Qaliet or going towards Siberia, especially during rush hours, have no option but to wade in seawater. It is not easy to turn back once they reach the flooded area due to road centre-strips. Salty water accelerates rusting of cars’ bodywork and flooring which is costly to cure and not quite effective.

I am confident that car owners who have to drive through seawater during high tides would appreciate a possible solution in order to avoid damaging their vehicles. An overlying pedestrian pathway built in this area some years ago has yielded good results. Is it now possible to build an over-bridge for cars?
