Hibernians started the new women’s football season on a high at the Centenary Stadium late Monday after beating Birkirkara 2-0 to lift the BOV Super Cup for the fourth time. The clash was another closely-contested affair between the two rivals as Hibernians, last season’s league champions, scored twice in extra-time to down the valiant Stripes, the 2013 knock-out winners. Substitute Corissa Vella opened the score on 101 minutes and despite having Maria Azzopardi sent off, the Paolites doubled their lead through Francesca Chircop with less than five minutes remaining.
